Remote oil filters

Thinking of fitting a remote oil filter on the duratec install.

Do you need an anti drain valve on the filter? Just thinking that the oil will drain out of the filter and hoses to the remote filter which will be more oil than would drain back in a normal application, does/would this cause a problem?

I know little about how it all goes, so any help appreciated.

David

Unless you mount it with the filter with the hole pointing downwards (which would make for messy filter changes) I don't think its too much of a problem...

Dont want to steal the thread, but on a simular topic, with an oil cooler, with engine mounted filter (with anti drain) would you make any steps to empty the oil cooler when performing an oil change?
- I wouldnt think twice about not warming the engine to help the oil out, but it occurs to me the cooler and pipework must hold a good pint in itself!

Along the same lines, how do you cope with the extra oil capacity when installing a remote filter and oil cooler? Obviously there is a significant increase in the amount of oil in the system with both a remote oil filter and even more with an oil cooler!

Is it just a case of filling the sytem then topping it up once its been run?

Cheers,
David

Fill your filter up with oil before screwing it back on is a good idea!

Geez David, that Avatar of yours makes it really difficult to concentrate on anything you are saying...

As for oil capacity, just fill the engine up as normal until the dipstick reads right then run it for a few minutes to clear any air from the system and then let it settle for a few minutes and check the dipstick again. The important thing is to ensure there is enough oil in the sump to cover the pickup properly and this won't be affected by the remote filter once it is primed. Overall capacity will be increased but the desired level is the same.

Regardless of what I said earlier, don't you dare change your avatar!!

Cheers,
Craig.
