twin cam, cam covers?

is it quite acceptable to runtwin cam engines, like my ecotec, without the cam belt cover on it? will MR SVA take exception?

my mate was helping me put my engine in, and dropped the car down a little too quick, and it broke lol no damage to the cams though, just the cover. is it quite ok to not use it?

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

I run my pinto without one. No different running a DOHC though.

There is the risk that a stone could get jammed and cause the belt to jump...

Which is exactly what happened to a friend of mine.
Ultimate race spec Pinto producing around 200 ish bhp. He went off into the gravel and the next bit is predictable.

Goodbye engine.
I would fit a belt cover - even though it looks cooler without one.

My GTM had a K series and I definitely kept the belt cover on in that.

Thats my thought really.
- It sort of looks cool without and all that, and might be ok for a road car. But certainly anywhere near a track and its got to be covered!

I found a bolt had dropped down and fallen into the crack between the belt and the timing pulley!

I only spotted it by chance when re-locating the horn.

Intend to re-fit my cover before I drive the car again.

Cheers,
James
