Help - Oil contaminated clutch - recoverable?
As the title says really.
Is it possible to clean a car clutch plate that's been soaked in oil?
If so how?
It's an AP Racing one so quite expensive, and only 2 months old.

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

I've been told that soaking in dry cleaning fluid followed by a thorough drying works, but I haven't personally tried it.
Cheers
Chris
Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the
error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!

Pepsi max, honestly, always had a bottle in the tool kit in my grass tracking days, cures a wet slipping clutch in nanoseconds.
I had a RV8 fastened to a Audi box in a class ten, oil seal leaked for a whole season, coke down hole before each meeting job done, guess I should
have repaired seal but coke was easier.
edit to add, put a proper engine in, they like oil on the clutch..........

Hi Shaun,
Yes. A bit too much oil outside the engine for my liking.
Hopefully all of it came from a leaky end cover seal on the new high pressure oil pump on the new engine.
The only time I've ever I left the clutch arm gaiter off the bvellhousing. Oil everywhere under the car and dripping off everything. I cleaned
off the oil and replaced the pump but it was too late. On Thursday, going home from work on the motorway the clutch started slipping on
acceleration.
Nothing a quick engine and gearbox out and in again won't solve I guess plus some heavy duty cleaning solvents
I just hope the crank seal is ok.
Or perhaps I'll just shake and squirt a bottle of pepsimax into the bellhousing ..

You're more than welcome to call over anyway. I'll get a bottle of pepsi max from the co-op for the car.

You must have tried the 2p left in a glass of coke thing ?
If not try it, may put you off drinking coke when you see the results.
