Bike carbs or standard injection?

All the way through my build ive had in my head that im just going to use the standard injection system.

But now im thinking would it be worth going to bike carbs? Would going to bike carbs give me a power increase over the standard injection?

How much work is involved with making bike carbs work?

The only reason i ask is i was thinking about all the wires i need for the injection and need to find a place for the ECU etc and also return pipes for petrol etc.

And also can i still use the original BMW fuel pump with the carbs?

Cheers

Mikkel

SVA/IVA may be tricky on bike carbs if you need to meet certain emissions targets.

If you engine is properly old (pre aug95 I think) then carbs become feasible as the emissions are not stringent.

I have bike carbs (and bike engine). Basically you don't need to do anything clever to fit them as long as you can get the gases flowing, and a throttle cable connected. So fitting is easy.

They don't like too much fuel pressure, so best to use the bike pump (these are cheap, light and reliable).

Plenty of people have passed the cat emissions standard with bike carbs. Still, if your budget can stretch the extra £300 - £400 then definately go for TB's / Megasquirt. Is you BMW engine 4 or 6 cylinder??

Engine is 1991 and a 4pot 1.6

Im thinking carbs will be the best way to go for now.. saves messing with all the wires for now but its good to now the engines got all sensors and what not should i want to go to injection again later on. (altho an upgrade to a 1.8 might come first!)

So just as a conclusion use a bike pump off the same size bike as the carbs then as not to over pressurize it then?

definately use a bike pump with bike carbs. So many people have had issues if they dont and it comes up time and time again as a problem. Some may find it ok but the bike pump is so much simpler to use - doesnt need a pressure regulator in the system.
