Throttle Bodies with stock ECU?
Rather than bore you all with my RS2000 build, I'm effectively looking at trying to save some space under the bonnet. Ford just love massive
EFI manifolds. I was thinking of popping on some throttle bodies. Now can this be done, keeping the original ECU and injectors?
I know I can rip out the ECU and pop in megasquirt and remap the whole thing. But I'm only after throttle bodies to save space, not as a
performance mod.

Highly unlikely. ITBS will flow more air than a std plenum and the mixture will be compromised IMHO probably WAY to lean resulting in a Knackered
engine ( pistons holed)
If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

Given the little cost involved in running Megasquirt..... I would go that route... that way you KNOW you have control over the engine for emmissions
and power reasons....
You might not want more power now... but you will its inevitable!

yes it can be done and works, if you use the standard sensors and MAF the standard Ford ECU seems to adjust things ok, ive got GSR600 throttle
bodies/standard zetec injector plate fitted. Would think the restriction is the standard MAF, yes it would flow better (and produce more power)with
just the throttle bodies/filter megasquirt but for the cost about £150 seems a option that does work.

its only checked with the use of a narrow band lambda, at moment which seems ok. i also believe teh ford DEEP ECU has a element of correction
dependant on MAF and Lamba readings to correct minor fueling changes. But it will be back on a RR in next fortnight once taxed before the next track
day to check and will update when results known.
Have you had the fueling checked on a rolling road?

The cost isn't what puts me off aftermarket engine management. Its the time involved in programming and tuning it. I can't find anyone,
with the search function, who has put a MK5/6 RS2000 engine in a locost / haynes chassis. Even on the Megasquirt forum its a bit vague.

Bit of a blunt answer here but....
If you don't want to spend time setting it up then you obviously aren't bothered about power or it running correctly, in which case you no
doubt could fit throttle bodies and a std airflow meter on a log airbox and it should run ok and drive fine, but it will probably not make as much
power as it could or use fuel as efficiently as it could.
On the other hand, plenty of megasquirt setups aren't tuned properly either, and your setup will be no worse than those!

PS I'm sure somebody out there will have some maps for a standard vauxhall XE engine on megasquirt, and the ford rs2000 16v flows similar air
head wise so an XE fuel and ignition map would be close enough to get you going and driving

LOL I'm bothered about power. Its just I feel 150 bhp is enough to start off with. I'd rather spend my time building my car and trying
to get through the IVA, than rewiring the engine loom, new ECU and trying to retune the engine.
I'm also bothered about running my engine properly, which is why I'm seeking advice from those with more experience.

As has been said it could work but I would bet that you would fail emmissions at the IVA so it would be as well to get another ecu either MS or
something like an Emerald unit.
