Sump Foam

Ok given that a dry sump is expensive and we tend, all of us, to need to adapt our own wet sumps (CEC). Then what do we think about foam in the sump.
Mines been OK on the flat but had a VERY light flicker under heavy downhill braking during the week.

If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

i'm not keen on the idea of sump foam. it just means you hold less oil doesn't it? and when the oil's cold, it won't flow through the foam, and when its warm and thins out, the foam will soak it up and hold it.

nah, i wouldn't. i think baffling the sump is a better plan

might be alright for race engines that get stripped down regularly, but not a road engine which may not. i'd be concerned about it breaking up, and the sump not holding as much oil

I don't think its a very good way of baffling the oil. Better off with an bespoke anti surge. I would have thought that the baffle is in place to reduce side to side motion, but yours is affecting fore / aft? Which way around are your baffles?

I'm not convinced it's a good idea. I've heard stories about it lasting for ages, and stories of it breaking up and clogging pick ups. Personally, it's too risky to bother with. I'd rather fit a proper baffle and not have to worry about checking it all the the time.

You would have to hold it in place some how or it could get battered to death by the crank.
Baffled sump and windage flaps should do the trick
