Pinto with Webers.. What fuel pump

I've just aquired a mildly modded pinto on weber 45s in a Starlet race car...it runs ok on tickover and when relatively cold but has developed a misfire when pushed hard. Its still running a standard mechanical fuel pump so we're wondering if its down to starvation of fuel...what pumps do you guys use on a similar set up and does anyone know if the standard pump is man enough for the job????
