2.0 Ecotec Installation
I've been doing a bit of a search and got some of the info I need but want to confirm what I've found.
I'm considering an Ecotec 2.0 in a rwd situation using a ford type 9 gearbox, has anyone completed a similar job and speak from experience about
the components I'll need.
I need to know the score re flywheel, clutch components needed. I know I'll need bellhousing and clutch arm, spigot bearing from the likes of
Yukspeed
I also need to know if a modified steel sump and pickup from a 2.0 8v engine will do the job as with the xe.
Does anyone supply the inlet and exhaust flanges, the plan is bike carbs etc.
I'm also assuming it will run off megajolt ie it uses a 36-1 trigger wheel type set up...are maps easily available?
Loads of questions but it seems like a do-able conversion on a low-ish budget and plenty of stuff in scrappys to raid.
I know its a compromise compared to the xe but it'll make better power than my current Pinto.
Finally if anyone has any useful bits kicking around the garage let me know I could be interested

SBD do loads of RWD 16v vauxhall stuff, all of it in fact. They usually use MBE ignition systems. I've got a car in at the moment which has a
redtop mated to a type 9 box, dellorto carbs, mbe ignition

mine seems to be working alright...
admittedly, mines not running yet, but its all connected and seems happy enough.
I got a bell housing from yukspeed, clutch slave cylinder from a mondeo (spacer from burton power, and a custom made bit to mount it, have a lookk in
my photo archive) clutch plate from a sierra (215mm i think, so any one from any sierra EXCePT the 2.3 diesel sierra which is the one you want for the
xe) the sierra plate allows you to use the rest of the original VX clutch cover plate etc. spigot bearing, i don't know. the guy who built my
engine said i wouldn't need one, but i'll need to double check with him before i start running it.
the ecotec uses the exact same block as the XE, so shouldn't casue you any problems with bellhousings and stuff.
inlet and exhaust flanges can be supplied by shortrack123 off here. he sells them on ebay too
as for power, as i understand the eco bit is more to do with the injection system and a little down to the cylinder head, so with bike carbs and a
decent exhaust should see you around the same as a xe.
if the sump from a 2.0 8v fits the xe, it should fit the ecotec, as its thesame block. but couldn't give you a 100% guarantee on that one.
