sva - iva - exhaust noise..

Just a quickie... but... will a very small carb nicely tuned lower the overall racket from the exhaust when having the sva - iva test...

obviously you put the twin 40's back on later ..

cheers..

My own experience of induction noise is that it is proportional to how open your throttles are. If you are at a fast idle then your induction noise will be fairly low.

I fitted an induction silencer to mine and only noticed the difference when I put my foot down. It didn't bark so loudly.

will it though? the engine will still be trying to suck the same amount of air through a smaller space. think of the difference in noise between trying to blow out a full lungful of air with your lips together, or with your mouth wide open

i would think the exhaust would only be quieter if the smaller carb restricted the amount of air getting into the engine, but i think induction noise would increase, so overall, no, i think noise would be about the same

I fail to see how the physical size of the carb will affect the sound resonance in the exhaust. Sure if your actually reducing the amount of combustion that takes place, its going to be quieter, but its a crazy way to adjust exhaust volume.

Surely an bolt in exhaust baffle / bung would be cheaper and easier (assuming they are ok for an IVA??)

Ooooo forgot about that ,,...duhh...

It works like the chrome end pipe on a vw beetle....which was part of the noise reduction....

Okay last silly question... would a single smaller carb be a better way to adjust emissions for the test?
