Audi 80 Carb Conversion to Weber
Hi all,
I am looking for some help regarding a carb conversion on my 1989 Audi 80 1.8. It has a kehin or something like that carb according to haynes. I have
been looking for a service kit for it for sometime and have got nowhere.
However somebody has said a twin choke weber would give more power (obviously) and better economy? not sure I beleive that statement.
However is it true? even if it isn't what would be a suitable weber carb? plus will any fit an audi manifold or would i have to make an adapter
plate?
Also what is the likely impact on my insurance has anyone added a weber to their car and found they had an increase in premiums? I am also tempted to
fit the SRAD 600 bike carbs that i have in the garage to it.
though I know that will deffo increase my insurance and require a new manifold!
Any advice and opinion is appreciated

I did a webber conversion on my old bimma that had an unservicable peirburg. the kit included an adapter plate to get it to fit the standard manifold
and a matter of running a cable for the choke.
I know some people prefer not to risk insurance issues like that, but as It retained the standard air filter and box you couldnt even tell it had been
replaced so i cant see any insurance company would know, or could reasonably expect you to know it had been replaced if you had bought the car like
it.
If you were to declare it, you could most certainly argue its not a performance enhancing modification so most would not increase premium.

As the Weber is a straightforward replacement carb not a performance conversion the insurance shouldn't be a problem. I have fitted several
Webers to VW Golfs etc and everyone has improved the performance as well as driveability and fuel consumption . Most have been replacements for Solex
or Pierburg carbs. Check out the price from Euro car parts.
