I,m not 100% sure but i think the one i used was from a Sherpa van (same diameter as vauxhall but with the 1" 24 spine centre.
Hope this is of help.

too deep? 2.3 diesel sierra is what i'd heard.
on my ecotec, which is the same block, i needed pretty much any sierra plate EXCEPT the 2.3 diesel. but thats different diameter rather than depth

when i was mating my ecotec to manta gearbox i loooked right through the qh clutch parts book and found that a rover 45 2lt clutch had the correct splines and diameter.

might be worth checking out other makes and models too

Hi Martin,

As I said in an early U2U this was a particular issue for me too. Alot of the websites out there quote the sierra diesel plate but I think it may be a case of "i heard of this one guy who used one from a sierra" spreading far and wide. Youd need to machine down your flywheel to fit it.

Ideally you need to get a special item, I shopped around - so you dont have to , and the price list goes:

£55 + pnp from Yukspeed
linky
£68 + pnp from westfield
linky
alotamoney from sbd..

Once the engine is fitted in a week or so, I will get my blog updated with all this information to avoid future builder confusion

you certainly did mate
i was posting in anger
the sierra 2.3 diesel friction plate is the correct diameter for the XE flywheel bit it has an extra piece added to the back of it which stops it fitting into the flywheel.
if anyone knows of a sierra friction plate without this extra (im guessing anti torque) thingy on the back im sure it would bolt straight up!.
im going to listen to c.d.thomson and get a yukspeed item
thank you

Yuk has been to hospital recently after injuring his hip. Hes been discharged but is still bedridden, I sent him cash for parts a couple of weeks ago and I am still waiting.

Extremely reliable and friendly bloke, but not the right time to be ordering parts from him

FYI there are 2 types of XE fly wheel, commonly refered to as flat and pot. the flats were fitted to earlier XEs, pots to later XEs and most LETs. I assume you will have a flat one, perhaps the clutch you have may suit the pot type?

i was talking to someone last night about that the only problem i have is the deeper (pot type?) would more likely cost more than buying a proper clutch.
ill keep this info tho because my memory isnt the best

How do you mean, if you talking cost of the flywheel, then the flat type ones are more popular (due to lightness and the abiloty to change clutches without seperating the eng/gearbox) , so you could no doubt swap it with some one quite easily,
The only thing I found when getting prices for the standard clutches is the clutch & plate that suits the Pot type was double the cost, however if you not using a GM clutch that shouldnt be a problem!

In fact I think I have a Pot flywheel and old clutch sat at home as my late XE had one and I swapped to a flat one. It a bit rusty but you can have it to try out if you like.

what i will do is take some pics and make a new threat of what we have tried and eventuall what works.
the decision has been made to keep the early XE flywheel
i still need a clutch arm
im going to get some measurements for the sherpa and rover 45 clutch plates (or order one of each)
and then hopefully we are in buisness

can someone post a pic of the standard and moduified(rs200?) clutch arms please
many thanks

ive found a friction plate from a 4cylinder turbo diesel that fits a type9 box and fits the xe clutch cover and flywheel
im not sure what it is until the motorfactors send me a new one (when they eventuall find what it is )
also have started to play about with clutch arms but ideally need the friction plate back so it can be tested.
ill post some photo's later on and any more info i can find

Has anyone here got a flat flywheel they can measure for me?

I need to know the depth of the clutch friction face from the outer ring of the flywheel where the cover plate bolts onto. If someone can measure with some verineers or micrometer or worst case a steel rule.

The more accurate the measurement the better. I am machining down a pot type into a flat one, a c20xe mini I am also build along with the r1 Haynes roadster.
