Rolling Road Recommendation - Mech Repairs

Had a day with Dave from Mech repairs today to sort my emissions out for SVA retest. Despite having never seen or heard of my tuning software (Tuneboy), he was soon up to speed and had the idle pretty much sorted. The engine and my computer kept playing silly beggars, but Dave was happy whilst I fiddled away with settings. I spent a total of about 5 hours with him getting it spot on. He also tweaked the map higher in the range, and leaned it out on over run (oh my god, I love the popping!). Overall a cracking day. The car never actually went on the RR, it was all just done on the analyser, so no idea of the output. I'm saving that for after the SVA.

For those in need, he said he will map Megasquirt, plus all the usual ECUs (Omex, Emerald etc). He will also do carbs (Weber etc), but wont change jets on bike carbs - he doesn't get enough to bother holding jets etc. He will advise you as to what you need to do, and tweak your ignition map for you.

The drive home was amazing. It goes like stink, and sounds awesome - all growly and bassy. I even did my first few clutchless upshifts!

Roll on the SVA retest and the summer!

ps Did you see the weather today!? Oh my - these things are fun in the wet!

Yeah thats the one. Oh and he is cheap - £78/hour or £480 for the day (although he only charged me for 2 hours!). He did say he would do a group session (no not that kind) if anyone fancied it....?

He has done two engines for me and always good value. Knows his stuff. I drive from Plymouth to cheltenham to visit as I don't know anyone closer who is better.
Does a lot of work with Omex including their base maps for toyota, zetec and duratec engines.

Thanks Greg - but it's Tim, not Ian! Ian has the orange ZX9 powered car....!

Dusty - I used a chap just outside Plymouth previously. Alan Jeffery I think he was called...? But I can see why you make the drive!

Dave rents the "outhouse" now and works for himself but did work for Brian in the main garage before. Both Dave and Brian next door will do good work and charge appropriately which is why I've been going there for years.

They seem to have a lot of URLs for a small garage tucked away behind a carpet shop!

Oh and my Striker was born in the corner of the main garage next door. Everyone chipped in when they had time to put it all together as I didn't have anywhere to build it!

Is it yours on their website(s) too?

The speed bump on the way in is a bit of a killer - lucky I am in still riding on SVA stilts, or I would have lost my sump!

Yep that's my Striker pictures on the website.

Here's a link to a dyno session with my Rotrex'd engine being mapped for driveability with some power runs at the end. I should have been sat on the back hence the lack of grip on the rollers.
