Will fitting an air filter make my car louder?
I know it may sound stupid, but bare with me.
I have a Tiger Supercat with a 2.0 pinto fitted and gsxr600 bike carbs. currently it has no air filter, and i do have here a pipercross 600 filter
virtually ready to go on.
without the airfilt i have been able to leave the bonnet fully intact. to fit the airfilter, and thus set it all up properly on the rolling road i
need to cut a hole in the bonnet and have the filter popping out slightly.
do you think this will make the car louder? i ask as i have my sva retest soon, and i want it to stand the best chance of passing the decibel test.
it has a standard tiger exhaust, it was brand new 7 years ago, so done zero miles, but i think tiger have since made their new silencers quiter
anyway.
so what do you think? will cutting the bonnet and fitting the filter push it over? or won't it make a difference?
cheers,
Martin

yes cutting the hole in the bonnet will make it a little louder but not by much, before i cut my bonnet holes i couldn't hear my tb's
sucking in air but now i can with three holes cut in the side,
you say its your sva retest, i take it you failed on noise the first time?
mind you having the carbs open to fresh cool air will improve engine performance and emissions.

You would have thought so wouldn't you.
However it didnt get as far as that part, due to a horrendous misfire. That's sorted now and she runs loads better.
Just want the best chance of passing the retest.
'Twas supposed to be today until the speedo sender broke this morning. I've got a three wait for the next retest slot, so was thinkin of
sticking the filter on and gettin it rolling roaded in the meantime.
Cheers

db killer would help, stick on in the end of the exhaust,
if you ring a local garage and pre-book an appointment, ask them if they will do a noise test for you? you are allowed to drive to a test facility to
make changes to the vehicle as long as you have insurance
