oil changing in R1

started the mnr this morning and oil can on spa guage is flashing along with red LED light. after reading instructions it indicates oil level has dropped. am i better to drop all oil and re-fill with correct ammount.or just top up existing oil. dont want to over-fill. if i drop oil is there a correct ammount for 5jj R1?

I would ask Tim when the oil & filter was last changed & what oil he used, if its been done recently just top up with the same oil to the top of the sight glass window.

If it hasnt been done recently, just change the oil & filter for your own piece of mind, best use a gen yamaha filter(£10ish) & semi synthetic (£30ish)

A yamaha mechanic once told me the R1 clutches dont really like fully synthetic & it would probably slip, but IMO that might depend on if its got a heavy duty clutch spring or a coil spring conversion fitted.

Workshop manual says 2.7 litre with filter change, I have just done mine & it took 2.7 to the top of the sight glass window.

No, but I have requested one to be fitted when Chris & Marc have their one in production.
