don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

£500 worth of bills and still not running right suggests he and several garages dont actually know. Having had a quick read of the previous threads,
my bet is on the distributor not working with the specification of the engine (with that cam / carb). I think i'd be investing £120 and chucking
megajolt on there and doing away with the dizzy and at least having full control of the ignition timing.

Where the hell is Scunthorpe anyway?
With a name like that it must be one of those terrible northern places up above Reading somewhere!
EDIT:
You're only just down the road from MK Rosie1.... have you asked them?

I had an old Xflow that baffled the experts. Used to be really difficult to get to run right. New points, new condensor etc all to no avail, no amount
of mixture fiddling would do it either.
turned out to be the distributor was knackered (wasn't engaging properly into the driveshaft) so I had constantly varying ignition timing....
An external trigger wheel and a MS would be a good option indeed!

my mate is a pinto expert he builds up old cortina's etc.

scunthorpe is full of bloody idiots who know nothing about car engines.
although im sure there is good people out there but i had to explain to one garage what planet gears were.
