Toyota 4AGZE bought for my project.
Nice little engines these though they are getting quite rare. 1600cc supercharged engine with about 160BHP and 145 lbs ft of torque as standard. The
dust is from GRP panels being prepared next to it!
I need to refresh the bottom end of my supercharged 4AGE 20V engine in my Striker. Ideally I should have had the block bored the last time I re-built
it but I already had a set of 8.9:1 forged pistons to go in it so I took a gamble. Unfortunately it appears the crank may be either out of balance or
slightly warped as there is a slight vibration I can't get rid of. Some might not even notice it but I'm quite picky so notice it every
time I drive the car
Recently I changed the diff, clutch and removed my light Fidanza flywheel. The vibration is still there so I got the opportunity to buy this late
4AGZE to use the bottom end as a replacement.
As the current engine is still driveable and I did a track day on Saturday with no issues I may take some time to prepare the new bottom end more
carefully.
If you know your 4AGEs the GZE engines had the thickest rods, piston oil squirters and again this one will have 8.9:1 forged pistons already.

Much more likely to be an ancilliary like prop., flywheel, crank pulley etc causing the vibration IMO. You will be better covering the orifices (!)
with fibreglass dust around.

I've got a NA 16v with the 7 rib block, oil squirters and the stronger crank, also higher compression then the older 16v engines.
just have to get rid of the carbs, as I'm too young to use carbs
Vibration wise, check the crank pulley, they have a vibration damper, and it might be knackered. A common problem on 4AG engines. But if you mounted
an aftermarket one it could be a unbalanced crank pulley, also a common issue.

Hi,
The dust was already present but I wasn't bothered as its coming apart anyway. The Toyota/Denso supercharger was clean and in good condition. So
will go on Ebay with the other 16V bits.
Having a complete bottom end means I can take more time preparing it before swapping the current 20V head over. I had considered just using the block
as is but I should get the pistons flycut to match the 5 valve head design. Currently its 4 valve and can hit the valves if the timings out.
Other differences are the 20V sump has a kink for 3 bolts where the 16V block is straight. So some changes to my baffled 20V sump required. Also the
exhaust manifold has one bolt at the end in a slightly diffrenet place but nothing major.
