Carbs or BIKE carbs??
Prons and cons chaps on what will be the best to run on my 2.0l zetec.
At the moment I am running with Pair of twin 45 Weber Carburettors and Weber Alpha ECU.
Not the cheapest regarding fuel ecconomy, and the car just don't feel lively.......ok I just sold my 954 Indyblade and got the Tiger Avon so I
may expecting too much?.......no but honest just don't feel like it should do.
So my question is.......would bike carbs be a better option, or I just stick to what I got and get it rolling road set up?
What you guys think?

i would imagine that twin 45's on a 2.0ltr zetec should give you some respectable figures, although it may be a bit thirsty, i would get it set
up on a RR first.
have you had any work done on the head at all, bigger valves, fast road cams etc? what about the exhaust system, is it a free flowing stainless one?

if the carbs and ECU were part of a Webcon 'silver' kit they should be up to the job once properly set up on a RR, if you were thinking of
a change to bike carbs still require a element of setting up but believed once set up to not go out of tune as quick as webers.

I would stick with the 45's and get them set up properly. They can accomodate 36mm chokes or probably bigger. Bike carbs may be slightly better
regarding airflow but there are fewer rolling road technicians who are able to set them up.
My Spyder Silverstone has twin Solex 40's with 36mm chokes on a 2litre Celica 16V 3SGE motor. It made 166hp on the rollers at Newark and has
only been set up using my arse-dyno.
It punches out of corners like a greyhound and pulls far stronger than my mates 1.8 Zetec-Jenvey equipped Westy.

Thanks guys.
No the engine is completely standard no head or engine work at all.
I only had the car for few weeks now and it only has done 330 miles since 2004 when was build
I will be looking to RR it first before I make any other changes to the fuel system. The carbs look brand new so more likely they are installed of the
box and never been adjust properly. I had few other vehicles with webbers before like 1776cc beetle engines in buggys and they where putting out some
serious power on those ancient engines and that was with twin 40's.
What other mods to that engine will be good for more power guys? Can you get c/heads already worked and with big cams and big valves of the self?
Exhaust I don't know if it's a freeflow one. How do I tell?
Thanks for your replys chaps.
Thanks
Panos.

Probably worth having a look inside the carbs, check all the jets etc and compare to the std weber ones fot a 2L zetec. It is a pretty std spec, so
should be pretty accurate start point.
And remember balance is king on sidedaught carbs, often not done too well.
As to webers going out of tune, it just does not happen once they are set up.
As to manifolds, most seem to look OK, but I am not convinced a lot of R+D has gone into them. Does anybody know the ideal length of primary for a
Zetec with a 4>1?? Many seem to have unequal length primaries, and that is NOT good.
