Cosworth rods, Pinto oil pickup
Building a Pinto with Cosworth rods and need some advise with the spray jet issue, i.e the Standard Pinto rods have spray jets in the big end part of
the rods to spry the underside of the piston, lubricating the gudgeon pins and small end bearings.
"How to build" book reccommends drilling the Cosworth rods, Burtons say "plenty of oil splashing about" but i thing not enough
at start up.
Trying to find a Cosworth 2wd pickup pipe to go with the Cosworth pump has proved difficult.
Do i need the Cosworth solution???
Still not sure which way to go.
Peak revs will be 7500.

Personally I'd sway towards the "How To" recomendations if only for the "I've done it properly - peace of mind -
I'm sticking 7k5 rpm up it" feeling.
What's the rason for using Cossie rods?
I ask because the "How To" book also talks about using the later stanadard forged EFI rods upto a higher RPM (7k2 IIRC).

Cosworth rods and V6 pistons give the correct deck height.
Cosworth rods longer, V6 pistons shorter gudgeon pin to piston top, got the pistons ready machined for cosworth rods at a good price, rods were a
steal.
Head is a 1600 Pinto with 40cc chambers.
Just a collection of bits that have potential.
Drilling the rods is not going to happen, to much cost and hassle.

One of the reasons for spraying the bottom of the piston is to cool it.

yep, your right.
could do with talking to people with Cosworth rods in there engines.
Funny how you hear of the Cosworth rods being bullit proof but when it come to fitting them no one has much experience.....
I won't be the first, thats for sure, but will report back on what i endid up with.
Also researching cam timing and dynamic compression ratio, another can of worms....

Agreed - There's no substitute for experience - and I can't give you any - but hope to learn from yours
Going back tpo the original Q, what's your ultimate goal? Cheap power with the bits you've got...?

It's not going to be cheap power, possibly cheaper than buying a fully sorted engine.
Rods are the week link in a Pinto so when a cheap set of Cosworth rods came up, i bought them.
The head is special but the original 2.1 engine was playing up so i decided to build a new one up in slowertime, working out what bits were needed and
what compression ratio with what cam.
Classic Ford mag have just completed a 2.1 build and got 161bhp, anything over 150 for me would be good.
