itg filter size
sorry to ask so many questions lately, but following on from my recent thread on an airbox, ive found a sausage filter which i think will fit under
the bonnet. Is it worth me struggling to fit the 65mm deep sausage filter which will only just fit if i trim bits of the bonnet back, or will there
be next to no benefit over fitting the smaller 50mm deep one which fits comfortably in the space ive got. The smaller one says it can handle 210bhp
so thats fine, im just a bit reluctant with it being the smallest in the range on a 2litre engine. What are your thoughts please...

The general rule is:
Filter height above carbs/trumpets etc should be 1.5 times the width of the trumpet.
But this rule seems to be broken all the time - but at least it's a starting point for you...

IMHO, If the filter is going to be *right* up against the bonnet, then I would honestly consider either cutting holes or going the airbox route as air
won't be flowing through the bits of filter that are squished...
As Steve says - the rules on depth are broken all the time; are you going to miss the extra 5bhp an optimum filter will unleash (number extracted from
thin air - no science)?

Its not so much because it will be pressed up against the bonnet, just i dont want it sticking through the side as my bonnet/nose/scuttle is all
hinged as one at the front and i dont want to cut a section out of it to be able to shut the bonnet. The air feeding it wont be a problem, just is
that filter big enough? Thanks
