2 stroke again

I started thinking 2 stroke because a neighbours friend is building one of these:

linky-link

and wants to fit a 2 stroke as everyone else is fitting 4 stroke limited to 500cc. He knows/thinks the 500cc 2 stroke will be faster. He was telling me half drunk but I think he siad single cylinder.

I would say to find one would be hard or impossible as I never heard of a single pot 2 stroke 500cc but maybe he has misunderstood or misread the regs?

Thought I would put it to you all. But now I am thinking why not in a locost that I starting to build? Or a road legal quad/sand buggy with road tyres?

Obviously price for me is a burden but he has a budget of 15 grand for the complete car so money is less of a problem.

There are single pot 2 strokes of 500cc - My CR500 below is awesome as a bike but I doubt the 70bhp would do much in a car :

Starting it might be fun in a car too! It's broken my foot once and torn ligaments a couple of times over the years on the kickstart :'(

Look similar to a Drakart which uses either a 900 fireblade or a 600cc Rotax 2 stroke producing 108 Bhp.

i had a large 2 stroke Suzuki rg500 but i don't think many would part with its engine as now are collectable good for 140bhp in a stage3 tune and dam good fun or the rd500 yamaha was also very good but a bit shy of the rg the yam is a v4 and the rg is a squire 4 both now a we bit scarce Image deleted by owner

Some speedboat engines are also 2 stroke. I know there is a 3.0 litre one out there somewhere with 320 bhp Thinks its a Mercury unit

No cooling issues, no oil surge issues
