sump woes
I've tried 2 gaskets I can't get my zx12r sump to be oil tight. Using the correct torque on a calibrated wrench snapped 4 sump bolts
Spent about 8 hours trying to sort it out.... draining oil/cleaning the faces/removing broken bolts.
I'm guessing the sump is very slightly warped from when it was modified.
However I used some sealant, on the outer part of the sump face and now its oil tight
Should be fine inside the engine as I was careful about how much I used and where it was placed so the excess was ' squeezed ' outside of
the lump. it doesn't seem to splinter off either so a thumbs up to loctite 5940

Strange that the sump bolts are snapping. The sump isn't normally held in place that strongly, it's only holding a few litres of oil in
place and there is a gasket.
Oh well, as long as the filter is still on the bottom of the oil pipe you'll be okay even if some of the liquid gasket comes off inside the
sump.

You should not be snapping oil pan bolts at 11 ft Lb torque

Think it was a combination of cold bolts that did it.
I'm 99% sure there won't be any sealant inside. I've built a few bike motors before and used it. Its just about using the right
amount I think.

We had a similar problem with our ZX12R sump which had distorted slightly after welding. The mating face wasn't quite flat so we used some
grinding paste and a sheet of glass to grind it on. After half an hour or so, the mating face was perfectly flat again.
Might be worth doing if it leaks again, or next time you take the sump off.
