Pinto 205 block

Okay so this will probably seem a stupid question to many, but I'm going to ask, what is so special about the 205 block? I vaguely remember reading something somewhere that they were used as the base for the cosworth engine. So what's the deal with them?

It also has an oil drain with a blanking
plug ,on the exhast side for the turbo.
It's just below the coolant drain plug.
Cosworth head fits but you need to
change the pistons and i am sure you need to change the waterpump

The 200 block is stronger then the 205 it was the 2l older block that was not as good

The 200 block was used in the 4 wheel drive cosworth escorts

The YB head will fit on the block. You'll need to fit a wider crank and aux shaft cam belt pulley to cope with the wider cam belt, and deal with the compression ratio problem else you'll end up with about 9:1.

I used a 2.1 bottom end, which gave me 10:1 compression.

The standard cams on a YB are useless too, as they designed for turbo use so have very little duration/overlap.

If you're using it normally aspirated then you'll also need to get a custom exhaust manifold and ideally do some porting work on the inlet side to open the inlet tracts out.

I don't remember having any water pump issues.

I was thinking about this last night. I did this conversion around 8 years ago, and even then it was a slightly dubious decision given what else was available - a VX on twin 40's etc.

I think I gave too much weight to the fact that I wouldn't need to swap over the bonnet and exhaust if I stuck with the pinto/YB inlet/exhaust alignment.

A 2.1 bottom end on Jenvey 40s, ported head, and 290 cams made 197bhp and 160 lb/ft for me, at a sensible ~7000 rpm.

It was a lovely looking setup though... almost worth it for the rocker cover alone :-)
