2.0 Zetec silver top
If I was to do an engine swap from a 2.0 Silver Top to 2.0 Black Top Zetec what would I need to change?
I believe the engine mounts are different but would I be able to swap over the exhaust, alternator and carbs etc?

Exhaust and inlet faces are the same. Providing your talking 2.0 1.8 and not ST.

What are the advantages of black top over Silver. Guess it must be age and miles.
Any other?
Am I right in thinking you don't re-bore a zetec just fit another engine, sure I read it somewhere may be imagination.

Why do I have to make the tools to finish the job? More time then money.

I've also heard that about the bores. I have a freshly built and bored silver top 2.0 going in to my new car. The engine builder I used
didn't seem to think boring the block would cause a problem.

I'm at that stage of... What do I fit?
Initially I was thinking BEC, but then the price of a decent bike engine has put me off. Looking around on ebay, Black tops are more common. Does that
mean not as desireable as the silver top? What's that one to have? £100 black top with ancileries on ebay at the moment and I'm tempted,
But then what box.... Dilema dilema!

There may be more black tops than silver tops on e bay but that is probably something to do with the age of silver tops? Even the newest silver tops
are getting on a bit

My understanding is the primary difference is the head. Blacktop has direct lifters, Silvertop is hydraulic (hence why Silvertop cams don't
work in a Blacktop and vice versa). Blacktop has bigger valves and it makes, on average, 10-15BHP more for the same modifications.
So you would be better off fitting a Blacktop than a Silvertop.

Sumps are significantly different. The silver top has a one piece aluminium sump with a windage tray fitted to the crank bolts. The black top has a
two piece, part plastic, with an inbuilt windage tray. If you have modified the silver top sump to suit a longitudinal installation it may well not
be suited to the black top.
