Zetec Crankcase Breather.......Yes or No????

As the title really.......been looking into this and opinions seem divided so need your help to make my mind up. Either:-
1) blank off the crankcase breather and either put a breather through cam cover outlet (either to catch tank or filter) or
2) remove spring & plunger from Crank PCV and feed to catch tank + breather / filter on Cam cover outlet.
Help please....simplicity says gor for (1) but the crankcase breather must be there for a reason.
Cheers,
Matt

Yes.

I simply left the oem stuff and led the tube down to bottom of the engine, therefore returning to whence it came.. the earth

Hows that for recycling??

I removed the whole thing, and made up a simple plate with an outlet that goes to the oil catch tank, along with the cam cover one.

Cheers

I just blanked the crankcase off, and put a filter on the cam cover breather.

Sold the car but the new owner drove it 250 miles home with no problems.

Left mine there on my old zetec Westy
(removed the valve though)

Ford wouldn't have fitted it if it wasn't req'd
(They'd of saved some money and not fitted one in the first place))
Spoke to a few folks who had blanked it off and a couple had then developed leaking rear crank seals

Just a thought...

A Pinto in my case, but the same principle - the OEM PCV valve works bu using inlet manifold vacuum to open the valve and draw excess gasses back into the engine to be re-burnt for emission control and to relieve crank case pressure which would eventually force itself out as an oil leak somewhere.

Option 1 is to remove the spring loaded valve from the OEM PCV unit and the plumb it into a catch tank. Very cheap, simple and effective.

Option 2 (on a Pinto anyway) was to get a purpose made block breather elbow from Burton Power to replace the entire OEM PCV unit and again plumb it into a catch tank. This was my preferred method as it looked more pleasing and still only cost about £10 all in.

Do Burton's (or anyone for that matter) do a block breather elbow for a Zetec??

Can't see one listed for the Zetec E (or the CVH which mmight be the same or similar). They're always helpful on the phone so a quick call might help.

i followed option 1

I was not sure quite what to do when I fitted the zetec, but option 1 seemed easier and as I am lazy that was my decision
appears to work well

Mine is as it comes on the Zetec and vents into the air filter back plate. Why change what works already?
