5speed gearbox HELP
Got myself a 5 speed gearbox from a scrappie. ( Doing a conversion on a 1960 MGA). Took inspection plate off and it looks in good nick. Got a refurb
kit ( oilseals and gasketts)and started to strip it down. Took off the 5th gear locking plate, to discover that the spring and pin were missing.
Thought to myself "Problem".
Took it back and the guy (fair play ) changed it for another one.
Took this one home, took off the inspection plate and it looks immaculate, no wear on cogs etc. started to strip it down. Took the plate off the side
to remove the locking spring and pin----- guess what --- no spring or pin!!!!.
Am I missing something????
Should these parts be in the box?. If these bits are not there will it effect the smooth workings, and what would YOU do ???
Dont know anything about these things, help would be much appreciated

A spring and a pin maybe?? :
Have you got the Manual with a full breakdown of the gearbox at all?? Its not that often that these boxes come apart so seems too much of a
coincidence that they werent there on either box.
Next port of call for me would be a Ford dealer to see if you can identify the part on their system's exploded diagram. I've always found
Ford very cheap and efficient for spare parts.

If you mean the long plate with 2x 8mm bolts holding it on, there is nothing in there to remove.
The spring and pin is behind the hexagon grub screw in the top left of the main case.
Steve.
