Filter King to Fireblade carbs fuel line

having a spot of bother joining one to t'other.
Filter King output seems to need a 5/16th (8mm) hose, the carbs seem to need 3/8th (10mm) hose, can't force the 8mm onto the carbs and the 10mm won't tighten properly onto the filter,is it OK to use a brass hose joiner such as the CBS ones like (http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/brass-reducing-joiner-8mm-to-6mm--bred86-1809-p.asp), are they safe to use.

I fitted the plastic CBS ones as I had a 10mm pipe going on to an 8mm pump, no problems in 3 years
