Bike carb question

I have a mate with a small garage. He has a Krypton (spelling) tuner. Would it be possible for him to set up my carbs to run properly?

I have another mate with vac guages too. Is it possible between us to set it all up???

Basically want to avoid the cost of rolling road

Try to think of it in terms of value rather than cost. A good rolling road session is normally worth every penny.

I thought a Crypton tuner was more for diagnostics and isn't designed to actually tune the car, just to find faults (based on a library of manufacturer benchmark data )with the ignition system.

I suppose you could use it to ensure the idle is ok, but its not going to stop you running lean at higher RPM and wrecking your engine.

+1 for rolling road

hijack alert:

could anyone u2u me some approximate rolling road costs?

I have completely standard zx9r carbs on a c20xe engine pre-IVA and I'm getting sooty plugs when I thought it should be quite lean (?) so will probably have to RR before the text to reduce emissions. Exhaust gases are all clear though, no soot.

Simply put - No!!!

Without a rolling road, you wont have a clue what your fueling is doing under load and revs. As said - its generally worth every penny of a proper session to get it set up, especially the first time the car is tuned.

If he has an emmissions tester then youd get it somewhere near if you knew the figures.

Or a wideband meter

hi, you cant set up carbs without knowing what the engines doing under load
if you could all the rolling roads and engine dynos would be redundant or never made in the first place.
although if you used a closed loop lambda sensor system on a fuel injection system you should have a self tuning/learning fuel system

you can put a wideband lambda on it, and datalog (megasquirt is easy to connect, but Innovate have other products), and then adjust needles and jets accordingly.
Or put a wideband with a gauge and datalog using a buddy (i.e. he records RPM and lambda).

The cost of a wideband is about £120, the cost of a basic MS kit is about the same. Lots of time and effort, but these are 1 time costs.

I started on that route (MS and LC-1) but once my carbs started leaking I decided it would be easier to EFI the whole thing!

I would say a nice day out at Bogg Brothers is the best way

Daytuner. No question. He charges about £30-35 an hour, IIRC. Cost about £200 for the full day, inc. initial run, jetting & fueling sorted and ignition mapped.

I'd go there again. HTH.

carbs/rolling road

I will shortly be dropping a Zetec 2.0 running on bike carbs into my car. I want to get it set up properly on a rolling road, but can anyone recommend somewhere, with a rolling road, in the Norfolk/Suffolk area who knows how to set up bike carbs?

Dyno Rolling Road

They´re a tool created to take the hassle of tuning by antique means.
That doesn´t mean its the only way.

Here in my home town and maybe a couple of hundred miles around, I don´t even think they know what a rolling road is. I didn´t know´until I started reading on this forum.

Beware of what you wish.. for it may come true....
