More progress? Yes & no!
USB-Serial adapter arrived this morning to help me talk to my LC 1. However it still will not connect. I seem to remember trying to connect the laptop
when I bought the thing and not been able to connect. The leads and terminal plug just don't seem to have a reassuring 'click' when
I plug them in...
So, decided to crack on with making the clutch work. The aluminum bellhousing I bought didn't have any provision for a cable so I've made
a push rod system!
The input joint is 10mm further out than the output one so the pedal is really soft. Quite chuffed with it, thanks to lsdweb for the idea

Looks very nicely made, but I hope your engine mountings are nice and stiff or it could cause horrific clutch judder.

Got this to stop the engine moving a round too much...

Even mounted very solidly that's going to wear down the linkage, mounting point and clutch very quickly - not way of mounting a point on the
bell-housing to fix a cable?...

Could you have bolted a cable stop arrangement between the sump extension and the bellhousing edge?
Thats a nice job, but looks like it will wear quickly....
Ref rge USB/Serial adapter, there was talk on here a good while ago of some of them not working with engine management systems

I bought a USB serial adaptor and had the same problem, if I recall the problem is that the engine management and software are looking for COM port 1
the USB is not COM 1 as a rule Not sure if you can reconfigure the laptop to allow USB ports to be COM 1
Life is like a bowl of fruit, funny how all the weird looking ones are left alone

I too would be very worried about vibration destroying your clutch linkage.
Might be worth considering either a cable between the linkage and clutch release arm, or fixing the linkage to the engine mounting bracket and running
a cable from the pedal.

Ok, I don't understand how the engine wobbling will make any difference.. theres plenty of play in the system.
Plus guys I don't understand some of your replys regarding wear, have you done it and experienced a failure??....
The linkage at the release arm has a m6 bolt that I rounded off the cap so it looks like the end of the cable, although a bit bigger, 6mm V 4mm. This
is screwed into the rod. Its loose but I find it binds up a little when I push the pedal down, hopefully the engine running will loosen it off when in
use.
Other than that I fancy making a bolt on connection that uses a rod end.
You can all have a look at it at Stoneleigh or Newark
Now then, it needs painting, how about plating? how do I go about plating to stop corrosion???
Thanks,
Steve

nah, i can't see how thats going to wear too quick.
rod ends will take care of any left/right/up/down movement, and if the fork end isn't done up too tight, and allows some free play, i think
it'll be fine.
though there is a spare bolt hole in the bell housing next to the rods. couldn't you have made some bracket for a cable on there? it needs to
pull doesn't it?
check and make sure megasquirt configurator (i've got megajolt, but should be similar) is set to the same com port as your PC control panel
pc control panel, device manager:
expand ports (com and LPT) find your serial usb adapter in there and check what com port its set to. mine went to port 4 i think. not sure you can
change it. not really a problem if not
MS
tools-configurator options- set com port to the same as on device manager
i'm prety sure thats how i sorted mine out

Not all USB to serial cables are any good. I have had a Targus one for 7-8 years and it has always work with everything it has been plugged into
(Netsceen NS-5000 firewalls all the way down to Megasquirt & LC-1).
A friend bought a cheap one off ebay it it talks to somethings and doesn't to others (LC-1 specifically). He bought a Belkin one at my
suggestion and that works fine.

Actually one thing to be aware of since you have a stop on the bracket; as the clutch wears the clutch fork will want to move back (towards the
gearbox). If that stops prevents it moving you will quickly get a slipping clutch. You'd probably be better off with a light spring to keep a
small amount of tension on the pull rod to keep it located.
