twin 48 dcoes
anyone ever fitted them to a pinto???
worth looking in to?
just because you are a character, doesnt mean you have character....
for all your bespoke parts, ali welding, waterjet, laser, folding, turning, milling, composite work, spraying, anodising and cad drawing....

loads of them on high spec pinto's - but if you've not got massive valves and alot of porting done to the head then they will be a bit
OTT
if your engines fairly standard then 40's should be plenty

road soon.

the key thing is to match the spec of all the bits
No point in getting twin 48 sorted out unless you've got the valves, ports, cam, etc. to match - it'll only be as good as its weakest part
(think how much power each bit is good for)
and if your carbs are too big for your engine you'll lose drivability

I can't think of a good reason to want to put 48's on a pinto.
you only need 48's if you are going over say 200 - 220 bhp.
To get a pinto to that sort of power you would be looking at spending thousands of £££££'s and if you are going to spend that much you might as
well go for a Duratec with proper throttle bodies. which will be a better, lighter engine.
So twin 45's would be all you would ever need in the real world, but even then you would probably need to spend £1000 -£1500 on the motor to
make tham worthwhile.
If you just do a bit of head work and stick with standard components and a mild cam anything from a 38DGAS down draft, a single 45 DCOE or twin
40's will if set up correctly be fine.
Cheers
Mark

I forgot to add: what about bike carbs ?
ZX9R / R1 carbs are about the right size for a warm pinto (good for say ~160bhp I think)
there are bigger bike carbs if they arn't enough for you and manifold shouldn't give you any problems

No point, the port on the head is OD 36mm and thats still too big for anything under 220bhp.
The best sized chokes for even the most highly tuned pinto is 38mm. 36mm is best for most. Both of which will fit in 45's

i'd have thought twin 45s would be the biggest you'd need

just a thought...
if i was to take my pinto to more than 180bhp would i then need to be looking at changing my type 9 box?

Youd bet better off looking at a different engine for more than 180bhp.
An no, no need to uprate the box until you hit about 250bp.

as a sort of idea, the racing trucks like mine, they run twin 48's with 38mm chokes, but put out 230bhp.
