Any suggestions on places to get head work done
Can anyone suggest somewhere i can either get my head rebuilt or service exchanged. 1.8 Zetec silver top.
Blew mine up at Cadwell yesterday. Thought it was head Gasket at first but it looks a little worse than that. Maybe cracked somewhere it the water
jacket? Lost all water and heated up really quick on a hot lap. Gasket went in three places too.
unknown engine i got cheap. Done alot of miles so not really suprised.
New head will be an easy fix
Thanks
Dan

A replacement engine would be the cheapest, theres another thread discussing prices £50 - 70 seems to be the general concensus.

As above - so cheap they're not worth rebuilding unless you want to tune it.

sorry to hear track day didnt quite go to plan, did you get much time on track first? i would say a replacement good running 1.8/2 litre engine be the
easiest way and can be had for £100. if you think the head may be damaged then it will be a replacement rather than rebuild, but to overhaul one is
not hard but got to budget on a gasket set/valve stem seals possibly skim plus lapping in 16 valves and possibly a £36 spring compressor, which will
end up more than a second hand engine

im wondering if that £100 tune up wasnt so good after all.
could also explain why it wasn't making the power you expected.
have you got any picts of the damage? should be able to work out what happened.
with the gagset gone in 3 places i would guess detonation to be the problem but without seeing pictures its going to be difficult. where did it go?
round the fire rings or elsewhere?
if the engine was old and worn out its usually something mechanical that gives out like a bearing, rod, bolt etc. most other things especially with
shredded head gaskets are usually due to incorrect setup.

had a thought.
get a new engine it put the carbs on cams in and mjolt. leave them as they are but dont run it too much.
bring it down to essex and i will have a chat with the boys down ATSPEED. will get them to run it on their rollers and see if it was anywhere close
to being setup correctly.
if its not im sure they will set it up right for you for a good price but unfortunately it wont be as cheep as £100 although it will be right.

I fitted the cams myself. So this could be the problem. Got my mate to look at it and he said it look like it could be either lean or badly set up.
Maybe i didn't get the timing spot on, hence low hp at rolling road and then blowing up at cadwell.
Had a great day up until then. Got about half a days running which was great.
All in all i'm not too disappointed, especially if i can get another engine for £100 ish.
Thanks
