Anyone know how much a TU3/TU5 weighs?
i.e. the Peugeot small car engine.
I know there were alloy block and cast iron block versions over the years.
The web is sadly lacking in such information

From memory thats about what I'd say as well. Its an alloy 1.4 block and is a shite engine IMHO ( Lots of problems withone in diesel form)
The TU 5 IIRC is a 1.5 ( well it was in diesel spec)and a cast iron block so quite a bit heavier ( I'd say poss around 90 to 100kg)
If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

TU3 is 1360cc 8v
TU5 is 1587cc so 1.6 either 8v or 16v
You're right about the diesels the TUD5 is 1527cc and both TUD3/TUD5 are a bit wheezy, but the petrols have a motorsports pedigree and a
following amongst the 106 and Saxo brigade (even more so for the TU24).
There's also a 16v VVT version of the TU3 called the ET3 in the 307 but it seems a bit low on power compared to its 8v brothers.

Ah good stuff there then. So can we assume that the TU part is a designate for the block then??
The book I had was for the TUD3 and the TUD5 engine.
If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

I had to post a reply from a friend of mine, slightly off topic but.....:
"If your thinking about a TU3, you must look at the TU3S.
It was only available in the 205xs or the citroen AX GT and had a much better cam/head. There were loads of TU3 versions in so many cars but, the
good cam was only in the two mentioned above (PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong (I need more options!!)
http://peugeot.mainspot.net/engines.shtml
But, if you do fine one..... HANDS OFF!! I want it! I've been looking for a genuine article for a while now and many, many TU3 lumps come up for
grabs but, none have actually been a TU3S . One chap even had a 205XS and offered the engine at a very reasonable price. Unfortunately it had an
engine change before he bought it and it was replaced by the TU3A (most generic version) to which he was unaware until I started asking questions
The only way to tell is from the engine code (they look identical!).
A TU3 should have code like; K1A, K1G etc.
A TU3S should have a code like; K2A or K2B.
Good luck on your quest, if you get one before me, I'll be gutted! (it's for my 205xr which will also gain a suck through turbo!)"

Well, the AX GT engine is very good, but the Rallye and XSi engines have better heads and bigger valves and are absolute belters.
There are a good number of 135-140 bhp 1360's on the roads/track.
Check out the106 Rallye Register for more details.
Here's a link to one,Sandy's a very good engine builder and always willing to help.
