Setting up bike carbs

Hi all,

its not going to be long and I'll be needing to get my engine set up properly.

1.8cvh eng on zx9r carbs & MJ lite.

The car has fired up but I'll need to get it sorted in as far as running spot on, emissions etc.

Can anyone recommend anywhere in the south west - ideally in the Plymouth area.

Thanks in advance

cheers

Daz

First step is balancing, you may find that is all to get a nice smooth tickover.

My setup was the same as yours and passed SVA with just a little tweaking of the air screws and needle position.

So, air screws out 3 turns, needles 1 notch above middle, drill the mains out to 1.6mm to start.

Cheers Coozer,

I'll give it a go, mate is into bikes so I'll have a word with him.

Jets are 160? I think.

bike carbs fitted to carbs fitted to an engine. That must be like fitting a flux capacitor

Hi atspeed racing, you will want to register as a trader with fozzie or chrisW if you want to advertise your services else you'll get the boot.

Try this for an Atspeedracing link

What's the typical cost for a bike carb tune-up? (rough estimate - won't take you to court about it! )

For example, CBR600 carbs on a 1660cc x-flow, as on my car.

Reason I'm asking is that I'm only 40-ish miles from you, half-way between Colchester and Ipswich...

Hi fellas. to be honest the only reason I posted on here (spamed) is from the feedback I have been having about ppl trying to get there carbs setup. Someone from this forum called the other and chatted to me about the hassle he is having finding someone with carb knowledge.
As I am from the "old school" I was brought up on carbs Webers, Dellorto's, Strombergs and the good old SU. the bike carbs are very much like a SU carb, so to me it just a more complicated version, if you see what i mean.
My sons who work for me are more at home with the fuel injection and turbo ECU mapping so we have most bases covered.
Hope Atspeed can help.

just thought that I would mention something

not all the jets are sized the same ways

mikuni, keihin and dynojet are all sized differently

mikuni and keihin use flowrates and something else that I cant remember off the top of my head, dynojet main jets are sized according to physical hole size

I do have somewhere a comparison chart for all the manufacturers, will try and find it.
