oil pressure

if you turn the engine over on the starter, would you expec to see decent oil pressure (ie the light going off) without starting the engine?

turned it over on the starter the other day, but the light didn't go off. didn't know if that was because the ignition wasn't connected though. tried on my BMW and the light doesn't go off til about 2 secs after the engine stared

i suspect i wouldnt see good oil pressure until i started it .

Does the ecotect have its oil filler in the same place as the xe?

take the cap off and turn the engine over - see if any oil is getting up to the cams. If it is then you dont need to worry about the vaseline and backing filling with oil that i had to do

yeah, fillers on the top above the inlet cam. i tried to have a look while turning it over, wasn't really sure what i was expecting to see though. i'll not turn it over til i'm ready to fire it up again, see how that goes. i think you may be right though, think starting will show proper pressure

Pull the plugs and ground them, then wind it over, should spin fast enough to get oil pressure.

With the plugs out you should definately get pressure.

If not try priming the pump by back filling the system with a pump oil can via the pressure switch / gauge sender take off.
