Zetec fueling (carbs)
I'm having a few issues with the fueling on my Zetec. Its currently runs on twin 40 Dellortos but these are in pretty poor condition (mainly the
pump jets not working and leaking fuel from the base) and I'm racking up a list of things that need to be replaced on them, so I'm
seriously considering getting rid and buying either Webers or another set of Delortos. The other option is to service them and at least that way I
know everything is sorted.. Not really sure what to do yet!
I don't really want to go to bike carbs as it has a Alpha ecu and these can only be mapped at a few places and all of the local ish ones would
rather have car carbs although they have said they will do bike..
Anyway what I'm a little worried about is that I've seen that Zetec engines only like to run of carbs with added progression holes or they
have large flat spots. Is this true? Can they be added at home if so. What have other people done with carb'd zetec's?

Webers need 4 or 5 progression drillings to run well on a zetec.
Its not a diy job.

If your ignition curve is good for your engine then it should work with other carbs inc bike carbs.

Is that Webers and Delortos or just Webers?
Feels like a daft question considering how similar they are but I thought I'd check!
Saying that delortos it has on at the moment only have the 3 holes but they look to be shifted further back. As in the final hole is more like the
added hole on that drawing than the standard third hole. I can get pictures if that dosn't make sense!
It does look like drawing B lower on the page though.
Maybe bike carbs aren't sure a bad idea!

Dellorto's are cheap to buy but expensive on parts and jets.
Webers are dearer to buy but are cheaper on parts and jets.
We hold many spares for Webers but have a very limited stock of Dellorto's. Many tuners are the same.
