Blacktop zetec noise under rocker cover
I recently attempted fitting new Newman cams to my 2.0 Blacktop Zetec. Unfortunately I think They sent me the wrong ones as they were lifting the
shims off the buckets.
So, I put the original cams back in, let them fast idle for 20 minutes (probably not necessary, but just to be safe) then took it for a short spin -
everything seemed fine.
Then, on Monday lunchtime I went for a brisk blat for 1/2 an hour - just to test, obviously  and when I got back to work there was a noise coming
from the cam area - I haven't looked yet but I suspect that I've overtightened the bearing caps...
Anyone else had this problem? I'm going to inspect the journals and cams then re-torque the caps down.
Any advice gratefully received.

The shims are to take up the clearence, you need to get new shims by measuring the gap, the ordering the correct size.
Did you put the shims and buckets in their original places?
I used a paint marker on my shims I1, I2, ..... E1, E2............
When I put them back I will clean them off with white spirit.

Sorry, I should have described the noise; it's not a tapping noise, more of a scraping or whining noise.
I didn't move any buckets or shims and these are the original cams so I'm not expecting valve clearance issues.

Something rubing on the cam belt? broken cam cover etc?
Bearing for the tensioner gone?

An over-tensioned cam belt will make a noticeable whining noise.
