Engine choice help needed
Hi im a newbee to the forum, so hi to everyone.
I have a narrow bodied westfield that used to have a lotus twin cam in now removed.
So then what engine would you guys put in it?? it has a type 9 box and would like the ehaust exit on the left (due to the whole already being
there.
Im going towards duratec or zetec.
Could anyone advise me on costs and any implications.
Does anyone have an engine for sale at a good price
cheers james

Hi James. They exit on different sides. Do you mean the left as in the passenger side? If so the Zetec exits on the correct side.

A nice Zetec would indeed be a good option. Tunable, cheap and easy to source....
Personally I'd stick a bike engine in it though and lose the type9

If you want to keep the exit on the left hand side and a type 9. Then its only really one option of the zetec

Proper engines have exhausts exiting on BOTH sides.

Duratec, getting a much cheaper option now, even if you have to do some bodywork mods....

I have thought about bike engined what sort of money is to be expected on top of the cost of the engine for a bec? If i went down this route i would
go for zx10r...
With the zetec what mods need to be done to mount to a type 9 ? and which is the best zetec to go for silver top or black top 1.8 or 2.0 and what
year engine. Also is there any issues with immobilisers?
cheers

If the car is primarily road use dont even consider a bike engine....
Great on the track, but hard work on the road.

Redtop vauxhall engine gets my vote are 150bhp standard and with carbs/throttle bodies should see around 180bhp.

Tighten the bolts up!
Well, a little more to it than that as you need to get the correct combination of clutch plate, release bearing and starter motor but the engine
itself uses the standard (old) Ford bellhousing bolt pattern so no special bellhousing needed.

Welcome to the forum. If you're considering going BEC, have a look at the sticky at the top of this section by Worx and put some prices against
the bits you'll need besides the actual engine itself.
BEC's are great fun both on and off the track and certainly aren't 'hard work'. Far from it in fact. Clutchless upshifts,
sequential gearchanges, light throttle and only as revvy as your right foot.

Yes but I also know several people who have sold BEC's very soon after finishing them because they weren't what they were expecting from a
road car.
They are just so tiresome on a long journey. I have driven both on and off the track and I'll stick with what I have got. Its the 7000rpm
cruising that gets you. And they are hard work to drive fast, lots more gear changes around the twisties to keep the revs up due to the lack of torque
low down the rev range.
The best advice is have a ride out in a BEC if you are thinking of going that way. You'll be impressed by the performance, but do consider the
driveability too.

I reckon I know a lot more that have gone from CEC's to BEC's, never to look back again If you want effortless driving and fewer
gearchanges get an automatic.........
Having driven both CEC and BEC, I would never change from a BEC. I will agree on one thing though and that is to get a ride in a BEC if you're
thinking of going down that route. See what you're missing

Thanks for the advice guys I think im going to go zetec. Cheaper and reliable.
Does anyone an engine for sale pref with carbs. I do have a friend who has a 1.8 out of the rs fiesta that i can use but need loom and ecu. I would
prefer to run carbs on it though.
Does the water pump need modding on these or are the 1.8 ok. Also what would need to be done to mate it to a type 9 box. Does the fly wheel need
modding.
Cheers james
