Our power predictions (and remember we have every confidence in these predictions because we build the engines with these heads and test them on our engine dyno) are for 204 BHP at 8100 rpm and 230 BHP at 10100 rpm

Me, Im not racing in a class that demands the original block and therefore have no wish to use half of a 1960's engine design with an expensive cylinder head that would have me staring at the temp guage for the rest of time!

Still, cheaper and probably more reliable than a lotus twink!

There just is something about high-powered crossflows... (just got look past the prospect of spending 10-20K to build a grenade)

That head is a waste. If you gonna modify it that much, put a chamber in it and remove the inch of crown from the piston, that would be a much better idea.

^^^ That is a very good point actually, hadn't noticed that. I was sure all 'hot' x-flow heads were chambered so you could ditch the manky heavy pistons

I thought it was a bit puzzling when he says "Our flow figures are effectively the same as the turbo head", since the turbo head doesn't actualy flow all that well; you have to do a lot of work on it to make a YB engine competitive in normally aspirated form.

Getting big power out of old engines is challenging, but expensive and you don't end up with anything that's going to be very reliable or have good manners. I'd still like the alloy head for the xflow in my car though!

I suspect these are running to what used to be called Clubmans A regs.
Clubmans B was for engines to FF1600 spec, they sounded pretty tame, Clubmans A was no limits tuning.
John Fyda of Agra famously got 193bhp from his 1700cc Clubmans A Mallock MK24 then his Vision V86 back in the early eighties.


Bringing it more up to date, I know two recent owners of this car, the Phantom P75.
The latter of the two owners started it up in a closed garage and it sounded nothing like any xflow I have ever heard.
They can still boogie.



Edited to add, FF1600 engines these days sound way more snarly and crackly than they did back in the day.
Can't see why, the specs been set in stone since the beginning of time.
