Pinto Clutch Friction Plate

Does anyone know how many 'Horsepowers' can be put through standard Pinto friction plate

At a guess I would say circa 200 but may be more. Does the cosworth yb use the same clutch?

A bird in the hand....

About 180-200 is the limit for a standard pinto clutch...considering thats double the power of the std engine thats not bad!

The cossie uses a 240mm plate rather than the 215mm one on the pinto.

So if you wanted to you can use a cossie flywheel and the bigger clutch. Heavier though...

Hi David,

I've got hold of a heavy duty RS Turbo pressure plate 220mm to fit the ST150 flywheel, so I think its good for 180-200 HP as a standard one was 135HP??

I was just wondering if it would be worthwile investing in an uprated friction plate too

But you would also need the cossie crank and a t5 box as its also a bigger dia and a 10 bolt fixing.

I am using the competition rs turbo pressure plate and a race pinto friction plate (organic not paddle) and that doesnt slip with 265bhp and 245lbft....

I would go for a fast road pinto plate and it should be fine Mind you i dont think theres much difference in the cost of the fast road and race ones...so buy the best you can

a cossie crank has 9 bolts
and they are on an odd spacing so you can only fit the flywheel one way round as they are ballanced together in the factory
so if you get a cossie crank and flywheel, you want them both from the same engine or you'll need to get them ballanced

also if your going to put alot of power throught a pinto flywheel you'll want to think about getting the flywheel doweled onto the crank (the cossie setups extra bolts do the same job)
