problem with cvh not starting from hot help?
hi a friend of mine has a cvh in a westfield and has some starting problems from hot,
when start from cold no issues
this is the idea drive the car for a while come to stop abd it wont start it turns over very slowly,
replaced starter motor as thought it was the solinoid still happens,
checked dc volts at idle is 13.5 and batery was 12v when engine not running so seems ok,
what else could it be???
checked earths and live connections all ok,
just seems there is not enough power to turn the engine over???
any feed back welcome,
also to say if you leave it for around 15 mins it will start up 1st time no problem seems strange??

First guess would be ignition over-advanced. This would give enough kickback to slow the starter.

In summer temperatures normally you would expect about 12.5 to 12.9v engine off from a 12 volt oridinary lead acid battery after it has been
"rested" off charge for at least 20 minutes
However I don't suspect a battery problem as this would sghow up when cold, to me it looks like the ignition has too much static advance.
If it is the type with the old fashioned centrafugal distriobutor at the end of the camshaft these are notorious for giving trouble.

yep sounds like ignition to me as well

sounds like to much advance on static ignition to me as well, we have this on our short circuit cars when we advance static timming to much, suggest
you check points etc, and check with a timming light on tick over and when you rev it up (see if the advance is working), hope you cure it. andy

CVH hot start problem is a common one, ask any body that has raced an XR2/XR3. Your timing is fine there is no problem with it, the power leads are
clean and make good contact. Your problem to much HEAT getting to the starter motor.Try wraping the exhaust down pipes. If your mates car is running
carbs try pumping the gas pedal a few times then turning the engine over pre fueling it will help.

heat wrapped the exhaust already,
just wrapped the starter motor with heat shield,
played around with timming and seems to help it now, will get a gun on it to see.
