How much movement?
Hiya all.
Can I ask how much movement all of you have in your running engines? The reason I ask is that some of the clearances in my build are a little tight
and I don't want the engine vibrating against the chassis when I eventually start her up. I'm particularly interested to hear from anyone
using an ecotec or redtop engine.
Who the f**K tightened this up!

only had my ecotec running briefly, but virtually no movement. for clearance, i think generally a minimum of 1/2" is ok, but depends on your
engine mounts. mine only have a very small bit of rubber in them, so its almost solid mounted

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Is the clearance left right or front back?
The red top i had in my tintop moved about 3-4mm left to right on cornering and about 5-10mm front to reving/accel/brake.
When I added reinforced engine mounts (sikaflexed PU in standard mounts) it reduced to half those figures.
Depends on how much play you have in your mounts, and how much power you have to make the engine rock.

The clearances I'm concerned about are left to right (remembering my engine is mounted east west rather than north south). I have roughly 15mm
between the fan belt pullys and the chassis and approx 10mm between the gearbox and chassis on the other side.

Its transversly mounted then?
In which case thats loads.
This is what I had in the Nova (Chassis is modded slightly to give more room):
And some of the same engine in the previous Nova that didnt have the modding so the alt pulley used to catch.
