None Locost, Gearbox removal
Folks can I pick your collective brains?
I've just picked up a V6 mondeo for £50 with a knackered gearbox, luckly the owner has already got a replacement in the boot , from what
i've read you can remove the gearbox without removing the engine, does this seem right?
Also does anyone have anything i should be looking out for on a 98 Si mondeo?

I dont know but apparently doing the clutch on a zetec powered mondeo is a right PITA, which would suggest that you cant get much clearance between
them...

You've bought a car that needs a new box, if time is of the essence then to struggle trying to just drop the box will take longer that biting
the bullet and taking the lot out.
If time is not important then taking the lot out will give you much more space and in the end save you time.

I have to agree ^^^^
Unbolting the driveshafts isn't a major job and then you can lift the whole lump and get much better access to separate the gearbox.
Nice engines - just whip out the secondary butterflies if you are using an aftermarket ecu. With a decent exhaust and intake you will see 200bhp and
buckets of torque
Cheers,

When thinking outside the box doesn't work any more, it's time to build a new box

Thanks Gents, I'm in no hurry so engine and box out it is, RazMan it's my hack and tow car so I'll leave the engine standard.
Never know though if the car was to fail an MOT
