Engine upgrade, best value in terms of availability, maintenance and modification cost??

I have not long finished rebuilding and installing a fairly well modified 1700 cross flow. All I need to do is get the side exit to manifold sorted. So as it stands I am driving around with various pops and bangs. Still fun though.

Admitedly, I know once it has been rolling roaded there will be an improvement in performance, but how much?? That's the problem. I can see that I may well soon be hankering for more power. So as the topic titles suggests, what is the opinion of the forum in view of my pointers.

My mate has a v8 which sounds glorious and goes like stink, but needs to have mods to steering column etc.

So come on chaps and chapesses what are your thoughts??

Have to say I agree.

You'll get a bit more power and lose a bucketload of weight and get an F1 soundtrack and gearshift.
This is from me - the guy that reckoned a xflow was all he could handle. Now I have seen the light - sevens belong on the track at full bore.
Bike engine - YKIMS.

2.0XE 16v Vauxhall

Parts easily available, not badly priced. Bullet proof engine and goes and goes. 170bhp+ on carbs.. easy get 200bhp.

Alloy head 155bhp as standard.

It all starts with a toss up between bike and car power. Drive both and then decide.

You can get more power from the xflo but keeping a high reving pushrod engine together is a pain the the rear end. better to SVA the car sell the xflo then stick a Zetec, Toyota or Vauxhall engine in.

Vauhaul?

I thought bike engines were still on the dear side, although I suppose that is relative. As for the Vauxhall option is thatthe red top ut of the GTE's or is there a more contemporary option. Bell housing convertions etc need then, but a twin cam might be nice.
