Inlet manifold coolant inlet snapped off.

Just when you think you got everything done along comes another job. Whilst replacing my TB's rubber onto the inlet manifold a small stubby inlet pipe things snapped of. It look quite corroded and was very soft. it has a braided hose from the expansion tank to this manifold inlet but cant see if this is the inlet, where the water flows and exits. Is this really needed on my setup if so do I drill and tap the hole and thread a suitable new piece of pipe or can I just block it off? You can see it before snapping just behind the dipstick.

K-series 1.8, not sure what the manifold was from.

Looks like an air bleed pipe to me i would repair it and not take the risk of overheating.

This is the answer. It was originally attached to the air/vapour bleed or whatever Rover call it to allow air to escape from the head. Best to repair and re-fit, although a new screw in hose barb should make life easier in the future.

All done. Thanks to Joe for precision drilling down the centre of a new bolt. Manifold now drilled tapped and installed.

However for an unknown reason the temp rose suddenly and there is a leak on the new head gasket

So off comes the head tomorrow to try to find out why.
