cortina live axle seal

Does anyone have details how to change the oil seal on the cortina axle where it the propshaft connects?

Not done a Cortina one specifically, but the general method is...

1. Brace input flange with a bar bolted to it.
2. Remove nut from input shaft (might be staked).
3. Remove input flange from input shaft (might need a puller).
4. Pry out the old seal carefully (large flat screwdriver usually works).
5. Lightly grease the new seal and knock in square using a drift (blocks of wood help) to protect it.
6. Refit input flange and nut to correct torque.

Away you go!

Changing it isnt hard but it is critical that you dont over or under tighten the nut on refiting or you will alter the backlash in the cwp and bugger the lot.

It was suggested to me that you count the number of turns to undo it and do it back up my the same amount.
