exahaust spacing
following my problem of the exhaust hitting the gearbox, i've got another flange for this engine, but didn't quite fit the pipes, but will
work fine as a spacer, its not the way i'd like to do it, but whats the thoughts on using this as a spacer with a gasket between the engine and
spacer, and one between the the spacer and exhaust flange?
i tried and it just fits, but i'd need longer exhaust studs (or bolts?) this would only be temporary thing til the car's on the road and i
get get the car to someone who can mod it further and get it right. would be ok wouldn't it?

I did it on my crossflow to space the manifold away from the starter, was 20mm iirc - never had any problems in the 2 years it was like it.

Likewise we ran a 30mm alu spacer on our pinto head with gasket either side, ran it for 12 months, 3000 miles like that, never blew, just had to keep
an eye on the bolt torques for the first few months as the gaskets settled in. It was to space the manifold off our slightly different/wider bodywork.
