In hose thermostats [Renault type]

Does anyone on here know how the Renault 5 etc thermostats fit in the top hose?.Ive seen some on E bay and it looks as if they just push in and are maybe secured with an external jubilee clip but what size hose do they fit?
Ive had an idea to use one but need some info.

Ok thanks I will have to get one to try.I have a rover 75 diesel and the standard thermostats are notorious for opening to early as they age and its a fairly major job to change one.On the 75 forums they think they are onto a good thing paying nearly £60 for an inline housing to put in the top hose to save having to remove the original thermostat and allow a hotter unit to be fitted. the Renault ones are about £5 and hopefully easy to fit or remove.

Depends if you have room but Landrover TD5 thermostat (aslo used on late MG TF and Rover 75 1.8) fits into the bottom hose 32mm hose bore, it needs a by-pass connection to the top hose.
For the by-pass connection just insert a 32mm tee As sold by Koi carp fish tank supply companies on ebay into the top hose.

Above parts can be found for under 20pounds on Ebay buy you will also need hose to form the by pass.

On the subject of mg-rover forums take under careful consideration and information you get from them as one forum in particular has a lot of dubious information on it.

Just a thought here - If you use an electric water pump (which adjusts the flow rate according to the temperature) you could have a small bleed hose from the hot side of the stat which recirculates the 'warm up' water back to the header tank.
