repairing an intercooler
hi all.
ive got a split intercooler on a merc sprinter, its come apart where the plastic joins the ally bits. Is it repairable do you think? Lather in
silicone and see what happens?
It only needs enough of a bodge to get it sold #
Cheers!

How about some chemical metal stuff? THat sticks to plastics and should be a more perminant bodge?
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

Black tiger seal pu adhesive would be my weapon of choice. Silicone is a sealer not a glue

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

If it's a join where it was originally glued together (plastic to ali), black tiger seal as mentioned. OEM recommended for fixing anything to
anything that doesn't have a nut bolt or rivet.
If it's a crack or hole in the plastic, either weld it or chemical metal - depending on the type of plastic. When I say weld, I do mean graft by
melting with a soldering iron.

On that type of construction of intercooler with the plastic end cap, it is common for them to split apart, tuning companys use the plastic banding
that you use on packing crates etc when they do boost upgrades on this type of intercooler to hold them together under increased boost, so you could
try a combination of silicon sealant and the banding if you know anyone with one.

Think of the poor unsuspecting person (like you or me) who is buying it in good faith! My response would be repair it properly!
Indecently, a proper repair could be the black gunk!

this happens on the Renault 5 turbo intercooler when upping the boost. Job is to seal it with silicone and then fit a huge jubilee clip around it.
