foam airbox

Hi iam new to all this getting a car set up correctly but i am very eager to learn. I have been reading a lot of your posts on airboxes and the various types, and i am beginning to get a little concerned about mine

I bought the car 90% complete so it already had the engine/airbox fitted (ZX9R)

It has a foam sausage type but instead of being fixed in place on the engine it is fixed into a hole in the bonet, will this still work well enough or will i need to modify it? i will try to add a picture if this doesnt make sense.

thanks

Are you saying that the engine has no air filter fitted and that there's a filter fitted to a hole in the bonnet instead? Thus meaning any sh1t coming up from under the engine goes straight into the carbs unfiltered?

yes that is right, the filter does sit on the engine when the bonet is down but it is hard to tell if it is fully over the carbs. Very tempted to get a new filter and fit in on the carbs so it then in turn sticks out of the bonet?

If this sounds best where is the best place to pick up a filter for a zx9 and is a plastic box or a foam filter best?

thankslink

Do you have a photo of the car / filter etc
forget that
looking at your photos can't you get a plate to fit the filter too and on the carbs?

no i dont think it is, it is shaped and fixed to the bonet with a lip around the bottom. If this method does not work what is the cheapest filter option?
