exhaust gasses, do's and donts?
am wanting to do something a bit different with my exhaust and wanted opinions as to quality of flow and of course safety!
my idea is; as the mnr drivers side is so long and i am only 5' 10" my seat is a long way forward leaving a large 7" gap behind the
seat.could i run the exhaust from the collector down the side of the car,as usual. put the centre resonator in a similar place to the standard alloy
kit car silencers.then, angle the pipe-work inside the car (behind drivers seat),through rear bulkhead at an upward angle above the upper rear
wishbones, above the petrol tank (as i have about a 12" gap), and out of the back pannel above number plate? obviously just the tip of the
silencer would stick through the rear pannel and it would be after iva! is it safe if wrapped in heat proof wrapping to run close to bodywork, and
above the petrol tank? and does running the exhaust upwards (about 18" ) have an adverse effect on flow rate?
the exhaust in question is a buddyclub spec 4 and the engine a honda s2000. i have enough pipework to do this. and the main reason for it is so i dont
make myself deaf with the silencer next to my right ear! opinions welcome please

It's your build and you can do anything you wish.
First what is a resonator and why do you need it?
Gas flow is reduced a little with every bend.
If your worried about noise get a bigger can.
the space behind the seat is where I put stuff.
It will need a lot of insulation or you will get a hot arse.
Insulation without any where for the heat to go will still get hot

Daniel, the exhaust on my car is all internal. the headers were routed around the side of the engine to a 2 into 1 collector with a 45 degree bend
and down the centre tunnel under the propshaft. ( the zx10r has a high output shaft so there is room for a 2 inch system) this then goes under and
around the diff and up on the ns into a y piece and two pipes into the silencers.
I wanted a quiet BEC having had a race piped blade BEC previously. even at 90mph you can have a chat without shouting. just leaves the noise behind.
i will have a look for some more pictures on my other laptop, though i dont think there are many.
I would say do it, it will look great and save your ears.plus the old bill wont here you from miles away, so you can go quicker without attracting to
much unwanted attention.
My fuel tank sits between the silencers hence the shield, no problems yet including dyno testing and SVA emmissions test

If you plan to sell your car one day, then making it unusual and limiting the possible purchasers to shorter people would decrease its value.
I don't think exhaust in the cabin would go down well at IVA (exhaust leak could result in asphyxiation in a tin top)
You might need a few heat shields. Normal cars have heat shields when exhaust passes close to them.
It sounds like an interesting thing to do.

Cheers guys. As stated earlier this would be done after iva as this system would never pass the db test! It's a 63mm bore with a race type
muffler. The center resonator is just an in line silencer to try and keep noise down. Take a look on YouTube at honda s2000 buddyclub
