cooling pipes

i bought some aluminium temp sensor fittings from Rakeway to weld into my top hose, i've got a piece of aluminium pipe for it. when i spoke to them on the phone, he said to use the shouldered fittings, you drill a hole in the pipe to the size of the narrow bit of the fitting, and the shoulder sits outside, thats how he does it he says.

the pipe is 35mm o.d but with the fitting in there, it sinks in about half way into the pipe. will this cause me lots of proplems or should i look to grind the fitting down a bit to give a bit more clearance inside?

i'll try and get a photo in a bit
